A little lengthy and meaty, this is a great read to slowly digest as it will require much reflection. Even the first chapter “The Pleasure of God in His Son” has made me fall in love with the person of Jesus all over again. It has caused me to align my heart with the things that make Him happy and delighted. This book has helped me to readjust my mind and heart to think less about myself and my desires and meditate on the person of God and what He desires. Out of all of John Piper’s writings, this is by far my favorite yet. His book is broken up by chapters that all begin with “The Pleasure of God in…” and into topics like His Son, All He Does, His Creation, His Fame, Election, Bruising the Son, Doing Good to All Who Hope in Him, Prayers of the Upright, Personal Obedience and Public Justice, and Concealing Himself from the Wise and Revealing Himself to Infants. John Piper explores deep into Scripture to learn about what makes God delighted. To see God and know God as He sees Himself is the greatest wisdom.
